It's dead simple, and when we used it, quicker and much more effective than anything else we ever used. Get the multi-sensory, mastery based homeschool spelling curriculum that is fun and effective. The sequences are based on building from easy words to. The sequences are not based on grade level curriculum. Sequential Spelling is great for schools as well as homeschoolers. (Though there are tests, usually every 10 r 20 lessons IIRC.) Sequential Spelling is AVKO’s premiere seven-level spelling program for the teaching of the patterns of English spelling within seven normal public school years. It's not supposed to have kids memorize words and test, that is what it is actually trying to avoid. The next day they do the next list which will be in part made up with some of the same or related words, so it builds on itself. Teacher reads the words, student writes them, and if they are wrong they are prompted immediatly to correct it. Well, what you describe is how the program works, not just for online students. I really wish I could find a good online program for my daughter! It seems like the simplest of subjects to teach online.I don't know why I can't find one? Plus, there are websites where you can enter your spelling list and have them dictate tests to you if that is all you're interested in. There were a few times my daughter called me over to help her and I could not tell what the computer was saying either. Frankly even if we had the teachers guide I would not use the online part because of the computer generated voice. It was a big disappointment to us, and I have requested a refund from the company. I am not familiar with the SS books but I am guessing this is meant to be a replacement for the student workbooks only, although that was not made clear on the website! Rather than teaching lists of thematic words, Sequential. That's it! I was expecting a program that would actually teach the rules, etc. Sequential Spelling is based on the classic Orton-Gillingham approach of multi-sensory instruction. It is just a computer generated voice reading out words (and sentences for context.) The student types in the word and is marked correct or prompted to fix it.
